The dangers of sin

When we sin something in us dies- W.Kenyon
W
hy do the battle of Christendom centers on sin? Why do Christians set ample time to deal with sin? Sin is one the greatest threats to Christianity. The origin of sin can be traced back to the chronicle of creation as recorded in the book of Genesis. Sin came into the world when our first parents despised God's instructions and because of their disobedience they became no longer friends with God. There was a severance from the sight of God! Since time immemorial, we have come to believe that sin is an act of offense against God. Briefly I will be sharing with you my personal exposition of  ‘The Dangers of Sin’

As a young person, I have eaten sin, chewed sin, digested sin and also assimilated sin. One thing about sin is that a constant repetition of it kills the human spirit and makes it lifeless i.e. we no longer feel like we are doing something wrong. This is the simple reason why you see people kill other human species as if they are killing some kind of lower animal. As I mature in my Christian faith I began to see the dangers of sin in my life and in my future yet to come. Most of the major causes of the misfortunes, sufferings people face today are as a result of their sins of yesterday soonest they forget they had sinned and begin to point accusing fingers on people. Anytime God want to do a new thing he had always demanded that we consecrated ourselves. He told Moses to instruct the Isrealities 'go and way yourselves and adorn yourselves with garments of purity!' The great teacher teaches that 'you cannot turn a new wine in an old wineskin' Some generations are suffering from the sins of their fore fathers or their grand parents. Sin, its dangers and effect will continue to linger until it is cleaned by the precious blood of Jesus. The dangers of sin cannot be over underlined.

#1. Sin separates us from God:
When we sin, there is a severance in our relationship with God.  The holy books says ‘The eyes of the lord is too holy to behold evil’. God do not live in corrupt bodies, He turn away His gaze from us and we are left to the wiles of Satan and his cohorts. King David one of the great hymn composers cried unto God ‘Create in me a clean heart Oh God and take not thy Holy spirit away from me’ God’s spirit is life and energy to the human soul and body. When we are empty without the Spirit of God’s it is like when a mother hen leaving her chicks to the dangers of strong and fierce birds of the air. When we sin God withdraws His spirit from us and we suffer a severe separation from Him; and until we are cleansed we will remain empty.

#2. Sin impedes our creative powers
In God lie true creativity, innovations, and great ideas. The holy book declares‘The entrance of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple’ Ps119:130. In the chronicle of the Acts of the Apostles, when Peter and John performed their first miracle at the beautiful Gate, the learned, the Jews were all amazed at how brave and intellengent these men defended Jesus Christ. They were agast of the prowess with which he spoke. They were intrigued at the dose of wisdom they exude when they were been queried. They Jews and the teachers of the law wondered ‘ but these men are not even educated’.

The Holy Spirit is the source of wisdom and knowledge in man. You may not be well educated but if you have the Holy Spirit welled up inside you, you will certainly outshine those with higher degrees and PhDs. Why is this so?  Simple! Because ‘He that indwells us is greater than He that is of the world’. Myles Monroe in his book ‘The principles and power of Vision’ also noted that ‘Man’s crave for education began when the first man sinned against God’. Those who live in the fetters of sin are void of the Holy Spirit of God and filled with the dirty spirit of Satan. Sin steals away our creative power and leaves us with zilch. No wonder the bible notes ‘keep your heart with ALL DILIGENCE for out of it is the WELL SPRING of life’. My style of writing took a different and better dimension since the day I learnt to pray for God’s inspiration before writing. So Sin is a creativity killer.

#3. Sin averts our blessings
When we are in sin God blessings is always far from us. God always work with His people. Those, who are not just hearers but doers of His words, God can do anything to bless His children even if it takes Him to destroy one million people!
When we are in a constant fellowship with God, His blessings are sure to come to us. He has sworn to bless all those who are covenanted to Him. Like he says in Deuteronomy "if you listen to my words that I instruct you this day, you shall be ABOVE only and never beneath''. Take a look at every sincere Christian and you will see that God’s blessings are always bestowed on them.
The HOLY bible says ‘"Seek you first the kingdom of God and after his righteousness and ALL these things will be added to you’ Matt 6:33. He also said in Deut 8:18 "‘But you shall remember the Lord  you God: it is He  that giveth you the power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore unto  your fathers as it is this day' Sin steals our blessings and breaks our covenant with God both in physical and in our souls. Sin makes us restless while a good relationship with God gives us peace and takes away our fears.

#4. Sin makes God 'deaf' to our prayers:
The holy books says'the ears of the lord is not deaf to hear us, nor his hands too short to save us'' then what? It continues ''but your sin has separated you from your God''  Sin is a barrier to the channel that leads to God. Like a priest once said ‘Sin is like a collapsed bridge that leads to God’ And until that bridge is repaired we can not cross over to the path that leads to God. God do not answer our dearest requests and petition when our hands are soiled with sins and our hearts are corrupt with dirty thoughts and desires.

Victor Negro, a good friend of mine once said ‘Prayering to God with a heart corrupted with sin like offering a spoilt sacrifice to God’ He will never accept it, He will turn His back at it, and He will smash it away.  What did God did to the sacrifice of Abel? He received it as a sweet smelling offer. What cain? He threw away his face! What was the difference? Abel offered the best of his sacrifice, out of a pure an charitable spirit, while cain offered the worst of his offerings with a dirty spirit imbued with grudgery and jealousy! But when we are cleanse and purified in our hearts, then can He pay attention to us. The bible says ‘The effectual heartfelt prayers of a RIGHTEOUS man produces much’

 #5. Sin hinders Self Discovery
God is the source of our self discovery. When we are wrapped up with sin, we cannot discover our purpose of living; we cannot fathom the totality of our true being because we have already been cut off from the source of our creator. This is crystal clear. In the beginning of the world God said ‘Let US make man in our own image and after our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over ALL the earth’Gen 1:26 When God made us, He had a DEFINED purpose in heart before He decided to create us.  And if we are to find that purpose then we musk ask Him directly. I am guilty of this. I used to think I do not need to ask God before I could discover my purpose in life. I thought knowledge alone will. But I failed!

Books, mentors, seminars cannot help you discover your purpose for life-Only God will because He single-handedly created you! "For I KNOW the thoughts that I think towards you, thoughts of peace and not of evil and to give you an EXPECTED end" he did not stop there! he continued 'and then you will seek me and find me when you SEEK me with all your HEART"  Rick Warren, the author of "The Purpose Driven Life" said 'We are not mass produced, we are definite creator of a definite God". Sin hinders us from knowing why we are born and what we are born to do and until we seek God we will never reach the zenith of our purpose for life.

#6. Sin makes us prey in the hands of the devil.
When we remain sinners we are never safe at all. God will always protect only those who are His. He will guard His people jealously even if it cost him His last breathe, because those are His and He will never want to lose them. Satan has authority to harm us and to make our lives miserable when we have signed an agreement with him by remaining in sin.
The holy book reads 'beware for the devil is prowling like a lion seeking who to devour" Satan can deal with men only when their hearts are not with God. Satan crushes men when their spirit is not bearing witness with the spirit of God. But we have a safe haven. King Solomon wrote ‘The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the RIGHTEOUS runneth unto it, and is safe’ Prov 18:10 The name 'Jesus Christ' will never move the devil if it is not coming out from the lips of a sincere believer and son of God. The name –Jesus Christ is only activated when those who are His mention it. The bible says ‘…whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved’

In conclusion,
#7. Sin robs us of the salvation of our souls.
Everything with a beginning has an end. "God gives and at the same time He takes back what He gives" Job said. Death is an inevitable occurrence in the life of man. Everything that has life will surely die. But we are not just some kind of lower animals. We have a soul which makes us different from any other kind of animal and that soul belongs to God. Dust we are from and dust us shall return.

We are not just going to return, but we are going to return with a report card giving account of how we spent our lives. Rick warren noted  that "when we die God is going to ask us two basic questions: first ‘what did you do with the talents and potentials I gave you’ second ‘what did you do with my son Jesus Christ’" The bible makes us understand that once we die judgment follows. Heaven is reserved for those who died in righteousness and the torments of hell are reserved for those who failed God’s judgment. Sin hinders us from enjoying the peace of heaven. Sin will make us qualified to be casted into the flames of fire that burns till eternity. That is why we should be grateful we are alive today because once our heart stops pumping and breathe is ceased from our nostrils, then we shall be facing God’s judgments. Purity is the only touchstone for our being called citizens of heaven!

 Final words
PS: Are you still in sin? Do you want to enjoy God’s protection and blessings? Do you want to know why you are created? Are you tired of living a life without meaning? Do you want God to bless you with longevity? Do you want to enjoy God’s inner peace? Do you want the salvation of your soul? Do you want to be all that God has designed you to be? Do you want to have good success? If you have just answered yes to those questions above, then what are you waiting for? It is high time you surrendered your life to God and enjoy a good relationship with God. Do away with sin and wear the garments of purity. Put your bodily desires under subjection and be filled with the holyspirit!. This is another opportunity to accept the Lord Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour!
